The Buri Bag Project exists to find and stimulate long-term, sustainable commercial markets to benefit rural artisans in Quezon Province, the Philippines. As part of this mission, we promote the artisans' products and encourage for-profit sales by vendors and market outlets in the first world. Any profits that may accrue to The Buri Bag Project go to benefit the artisan weavers who create these wonderful products.
Our products adhere to the highest standards of environmental sustainability and safety. The Buri Bag Project and its local trader partners will adhere to the principals of Fair Trade at all times.
Since all products are hand-made by individual weavers, there is naturally some minor variation in pattern, weave, and details. (An expert familiar with their work can often distinguish a weaver's work by their individual pattern or style.) The artisans are also constantly innovating to create new colorful patterns and products.
The weavers of Sampaloc and Mauban are producing and exporting the following items for international sale by affiliate vendors of The Buri Bag Project. (This list is also available as a PDF file for download at the bottom of the page.)
